Obvious Stuff:The bowl and most parts are metal, non-metal parts are wooden.This gives it a quality feeling and look.I got this because I didn't particularly like the look of the Hario plastic and glass burr grinders.Pro's:Looks great on the counter top next to my Chemex and kettle.Grinder is easy to adjust, just remove the handle and spin the funny gear to pull the center burr up or down a bit.Pretty even grind; much better than my previous blade grinder.Grind box is easy to slide out and check that you have the correct grind.Meh's:The burrs move a little bit laterally as you grind, as this is my first burr grinder i wasn't totally expecting that.I'm not sure if it affect the grind quality at all, since it seems to be the same setup as all the other manual grinders.I feel Hario could've easily included another brace on the burr shaft and made this feel very very solid.I may modify it later to do just that, but I shouldn't have to.The knob of the collection box at the bottom (where the grinds fall to) can easily fall out if you pull it too hard, since it's kept there in a mere peg-like fashion. A tiny drop of wood glue could've been used to keep it perfectly in place forever.If the knob falls out, though, you can easily put it back in and you can get the box out using the lip of it easy enough too.Probably because this is an import, the hardware (screws) holding the four pillars in place were a little loose upon arrival.I simply took a phillips-head screwdriver and gave them a small tightening (the screws are on the bottom of the grinder).It feels much more sturdy now.Con's:None really that make me not want this.I was fully aware of the time it takes to manually grind beans, so I wasn't surprised like some reviewers on other grinders.Conclusion:You're definitely paying a premium for the appearance, the functionality is probably exactly what you'd get for about half the price from one of Hario's other grinders.None of the Meh's above are bad enough to not be happy overall with my purchase.Just be aware of what you're getting into and I think you'll be happy too.
