Encore Coffee Grinder by Baratza

Product Description

Perfect go-to grinder for those who love both drip-coffee and manual brews and fine enough for espresso. Upgraded burrs to give a great grind and features a completely new redesigned gearbox. The Encore coffee grinder has the accurate coarse grind for the increasingly popular manual brew methods such as pour-over, Aeropress, French Press, Siphon, and Chemex. The specially designed burrs give a precise grind with minimal fines for a flavorful, balanced extraction when making espresso. The efficient DC motor keep your beans cool, even during extended grind times, while a combination of electric and great speed reducers slow the burr to 450 RPM, ensuring a smooth bean feed and reducing noise, heat and static buildup.

5New and Improved Encore Coffee Grinder
By tonybazz
After exhaustive research on grinders under 200 bucks I pulled the trigger on this one. I did not want a noisy high rpm grinder and was pleasantly surprised at how low the rpm level is and the corresponding lack of noise this grinder makes.A very nice size (small footprint on counter)and can grind just as well for a twelve cup coffee maker or pulse grind into your portafilter with excellent results. Also, not much coffee gets left behind in the shoot and what does collect is easy to whisk away with the provided brush.I also own and have used daily a Kitchen AidKitchenAid Pro Line Series Burr Coffee Mill, Onyx Black for the last several years that works well enough for drip grind and is a work horse to be sure, however even with new replaced burrs just doesn't cut it for espresso. My Daughter just got a Bodum BistroBodum Bistro Electric Burr Coffee Grinder, Blacklast Christmas that actually produces a very high quality grind not unlike the Encore, but just not the same volume and probably not as durable. This is a well built grinder with a high quality grind and lots of grind options at a very reasonable price.

4Excellent espresso grinder for the price
By Bill Clark
I've finally found a good $200-or-less grinder for espresso. Having tried the Breville BCG800XL Smart Grinder -- which produced an excellent grind, but jammed after a few uses -- and the KitchenAid Pro Line Series Burr Coffee Mill, Onyx Black -- which was unable to produce a fine enough grind for espresso -- this device seems to have what it takes. There are some limitations:1. The grinder is SLOW. The noise level is moderate, suggesting a relatively slow rotation speed, which is good. But it takes 30 seconds or so to produce enough ground coffee to fill a double-espresso filter basket.2. There is no timer or other mechanism to "set" the grind amount.3. The removable plastic receptacle that catches the grind is semi-opaque -- in the morning light of my kitchen I cannot see how much grind has accumulated.I'd love to have the UI of the Breville (which lets you set the grind, set the amount, then press "Go") with the reliability of this grinder. But I can live with it: I'm learning to set a timer (about 90 seconds for my usual morning jolt.) These issues keep me from giving the item 5 stars, but I still consider it excellent value for the money.

3Not as great as I thought
By pete
We got the grinder quickly. We thought that it was not as quiet as some of the reviews said it would be. We live in a high elevation area, and was hoping that the static wouldn't be an issue as some of the reviews said, we found that not to be true here. The grinds do get all over - not as much as our old one, but still happens. We have also found that all the grounds do not come out of the hopper, so either you have to smack it with your hand, or gently bang it on the counter top to get them to drop down. On a positive note, the grind does come out properly. Overall, we are happy with the way it works.
